On the Ropes
Tuesday 17 April 2007 21:30
John Humphrys in conversation with Sion Jenkins, who was convicted and then acquitted of the murder of his foster daughter Billie-Jo. He talks about his trials and time in prison.

I listened to this programme this morning and I think anyone interested in the legal system would be interested in hearing it. It is a Pick Of The Week and should anyway be available for about 7 days from first broadcast.

No Drop-in Session Tomorrow (April 18th)
Hi there!
Please note I am not here Weds-Friday of this week but will be available from next Monday as usual. Email is the best way to get hold of me but feel free to ring me on my office number (I have sent you the details in an email) if you prefer. If there is sufficient demand I can put on some more drop-in sessions but I'm also happy to see people on an individual basis. But try email in the first instance as many questions can be answered by an e-mailed reply.

Virginia Tech Students Tell Their Stories Online
Interesting article on MTV website about use of so-called Web 2.0 services to allow people to comment upon and reflect upon the incident. It would appear that many students were trying to find out information during the shooting by checking their email accounts (indeed the university had sent out emails about the danger) and discussing events on chat room and services such as Fark as it happened.
You can follow a transcipt from Fark (with time stamped comments).

Virginia Tech Shooting

I'm sure everyone is still coming to terms with the scale of the Virginia Tech incident.
Something I’ve found interesting is that while the traditional media were rather slow (reticent?) to name the gunman (probably awaiting legal clearance) there were reports in the blogging community (who often feel less restrained by such concerns – even if mistakenly) that they cold name the gunman and I even heard mention on the TV news that there were some pictures identifying him on various photo sharing websites (unconfirmed).
Not sure in your role as law school undergraduates what you would make of the naming of people under such circumstances; were he not dead now would his lawyers have claimed that his trial would have been prejudiced by such reports?
